Jewish learning is a lifelong process - come join us for the journey!
Check out a variety of learning opportunities offered in the categories of: Text & Thought; History, Politics, & Current Events; Jewish Arts & Culture; and Hebrew Language.

Text and Thought 

Jews are often called "The People of the Book."  These Text & Thought adult education programs provide opportunities to deepen your knowledge of Jewish texts, values, and traditions.  Offerings range from weekly Torah study groups to monthly Chai Mitzvah Learning Circles to lectures on Jewish topics.  Learners of all backgrounds are welcome!

Chai Mitzvah Learning Circles

Join community members for monthly, informal Jewish learning circles! Engage in meaningful Jewish learning, partake in social action opportunities, and find new (or renewed) meaning in Jewish rituals. Learning circles are open to anyone willing to commit to attending nine sessions over the course of the year.

History, Politics, & Current Events 

The Jewish people have a long history that continues to influence our interactions in the world today.  These learning opportunities provide insights into the impact Jews have made and continue to make in the broader world.  They will also provide a forum to discuss key issues with which the Jewish community is currently wrestling.

Jewish Podcast Talks in Indy

JFGI is excited to invite everyone to join in broader conversations taking place throughout the world by listening to and talking about current Jewish podcasts.  We will be hosting four podcast discussion series, each with a different focus and its own curator who will select the listening clips and facilitate conversation.

Jewish Arts & Culture

The spirit (ruach) of the Jewish people is reflected in our rich history of cultural and artistic expression.  Through these Jewish Arts & Culture learning opportunities you can join with other adult learners to taste, see, and hear aspects of Jewish life while also gaining a deeper sense of multiple expressions of Jewish experience from the past to the present.

Twist & Shout: Challah Baking

Come learn the art and tradition of challah baking with friends, new and old, in time for the New Year!

Wine and appetizers will be provided throughout the evening program - facilitated by community leader Brent Epstein. We will be spening the evening in the Sablosky Pavillion behind the JCC Indianapolis.

Hebrew does not need to feel like a foreign language!  If you are interested in learning to read or speak in Hebrew, JFGI offers adult Hebrew classes for you!  Classes will be held at the JFGI Center for Jewish Engagement & Learning on Sunday mornings from 9:45-11:15am and are open to all adult learners in the community.  Classes will be taught by Sarit Linkon, a native Israeli with decades of experience teaching Hebrew. She currently works as the Hebrew language specialist at the Hasten Hebrew Academy of Indianapolis and is also a local artist.  The fee for each course is $36, which includes all instructional materials and opportunities to receive individualized support in addition to 5 lessons.

Taste of Hebrew

Learn how to decode Hebrew in one day!  This class is for people who are new to Hebrew and are interested in learning to decode the language.  By the end of the class you will be able to put together basic multi-syllable words and Hebrew will no longer look entirely foreign.  Sunday, October 6, 9:30am-2:00pm (lunch included)

Conversational Hebrew 1

Make Hebrew come alive for you by learning conversational Hebrew!  This class is for adults who already know how to read Hebrew and would like to use those skills to engage in Hebrew conversation.
