BBYO Overview:
BBYO is the leading pluralistic, Jewish teen movement and has been providing exceptional leadership programs and identity enrichment experiences for 90 years. We offer year-round activities in hundreds of local communities and inspiring world-wide travel experiences enabling teens to explore areas of leadership, service, civic engagement, Israel education and Jewish values.
Position Summary:
The Indianapolis BBYO City Director is responsible for growing the teen movement by developing AZA/BBG chapters, inspiring regional excellence, and broadening visibility of BBYO in the community. This is a part-time (approximately 10-15 hours/week), 10 month position.
Responsibilities:
- Train teens as chapter leaders to run a meeting, plan a calendar, recruit new members, ensure program excellence, and create meaningful programs that attract other teens.
- Work with teen leaders to establish an annual program calendar for each chapter based on principles of AZA and BBG.
- Inspire and support teens by creating leadership development opportunities and serving as a Jewish role model/experiential educator.
- Supervise all aspects of the local programming and work with the local chapter boards, advisors, parents and other community stakeholders.
- Ensure that each chapter is committed to BBYO movement wide initiatives.
- Communicate with parents and keep them informed about local and regional events as well as BBYO summer domestic and travel opportunities.
- Serve as staff for all Regional/Chapter conventions.
- Whenever possible, participate in professional development by attending BBYO staff conference and other programmatic pieces that will add meaning to the local BBYO program.
- Plan programs in the community for Jewish teens in grades 6-12.
- Recruit, train, supervise and develop volunteer advisors to mentor and guide chapter excellence under the direction of the Regional Director.
- Promote BBYO in the community by building and maintaining relationships as the “face of BBYO” with all key community stakeholders including parents, alumni, advisors and partners.
- Promote partnerships with other Jewish agencies in the community.
- Promote, participate and attend community programming that is relative to the teen population.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work approximately 10 – 15 hours per week;
- Ability to work weekend and evening events;
- Ability to travel to regional events and programs, approximately 5 times per calendar year;
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and projects;
- Experience in non-profit program development, preferably within a Jewish communal organization;
- Experience working with teens in the Jewish community
- Experience working with volunteers and lay committees;
- Strong knowledge of Jewish history, culture, and practice;
- Proven ability to juggle multiple priorities and move quickly from one project to another while maintaining overall perspective;
- Demonstrated track record of motivating and energizing others;
- Strong budgeting, strategic planning, and marketing skills;
- Superior interpersonal skills;
- Excellent written and verbal skills;
- Proven abilities in planning and implementing large scale programs;
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
