Intergenerational Programs

Enacting the Jewish value of "dor l'dor"  - generation to generation

Family Jewish Experiences

We all know that parents have the potential to be their children's best teachers. Jewish family learning programs empower parents to be their children's teacher while also educating the family as a whole about the richness of Jewish life and traditions. We hope that your family will join us at many of the family Jewish experiences offered in our community.

Featured Family Jewish Experience:

PJ Library

PJ Library sends free, age-appropriate Jewish books and music to families every month. Created by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, PJ Library is a national program implemented by local communities. In Indianapolis, PJ Library works in partnership with the Alan and Linda Cohen Family Foundation and the Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis.  Locally, we have a variety of PJ Library programs and events:  PJ Baby ConnectPJ Library, and PJ Our Way

Interfaith Programming

Interfaith families make up an increasing number of the families in our communities. We want to make sure that families of diverse backgrounds who are active in the Jewish community feel welcome and have the support needed to raise their children and grandchildren with a connection to Jewish life.  JFGI's Interfaith Programming is designed to support parents, grandparents, and other adults involved in the spiritual growth of interfaith children.

Finding Your Place in B'nai Mitzvah

Preparing for b’nai mitzvah can feel complicated and overwhelming for any parent.  This 3-session program helps interfaith families find their place in b’nai mitzvah through learning about the lifecycle event, meeting with families who will share their prior experiences, and developing strategies for family members of all faith traditions to feel welcome and part of the festivities.  JFGI is able to offer this program at no charge due to generous funding from the National Center to Encourage Judaism.  Sessions will be held in early 2020, with dates to be announced soon.

December Decisions for Grandparents

This year Chanukah and Christmas fall at the same time.  What does this mean for you as a grandparent of interfaith grandchildren?  Gather with peers on 11/24 from 10:00-11:30am to explore some of the difficulties and opportunities the month of December has in store.  Discuss ways to navigate this month in a way that supports your Jewish identity and the Jewish growth of your grandchild/ren while also honoring other faith traditions and family members.  JFGI is able to offer this program at no charge due to generous funding from the National Center to Encourage Judaism.

Interfaith Parenting Circle

According to JFGI's recent demographic study, we know that 55% of households in our community are interfaith families.  We want to support parents in the process of raising their children and have developed this Interfaith Parenting Circle to do so.  Moms and dads are invited to join us for six sessions to learn together, share experiences, and discuss ways to nurture your children's growth.  Patti Freeman Dorson will be leading this group and will share from her personal experience as well.  The group is open to all who are navigating what it means to be part of an interfaith family.
